“People think their hand is wider than it actually is,” said Longo. He said they also seemed to think their fingers were shorter than their true lengths. 

伦敦大学学院的一项调查研究发现，人的手指，通常比我们自己认为的更细更长。

Longo said our brains “see” areas based on our sense of touch, with the stronger the sense of touch in a specific body part, the bigger that body part seems. 

人体通过躯体感觉系统，来感知外部。某个部位的触感越强烈，大脑会认为这个部分越大。

An example is our lips. As they have more nerves (神经) than our noses, our brain’s map shows our lips are bigger. The same thing can happen with body parts that have a lot of nerves. If you’ve ever had something stuck in your teeth, it probably felt huge! That’s because our tongues also have lots of nerves.

嘴唇就是个例子！因为嘴唇比鼻子有更多的神经，所以我们的大脑会觉得嘴比较大。再举个更生活化的例子：你塞牙的时候，是不是感觉塞进的异物好大一个……其实这也是舌头的丰富神经搞的鬼！
